How fluid and easy questions and answers were given. Very revealing. Pleased to see how good people skills elicit meaningful discourse

Why did you enjoy it?
I enjoyed hearing each other's stories, philosophies.
It was fun to share. We don't' have enough time as colleagues to do this constructively.
It allowed me to be listened to and to talk about myself.
Learning things about people I probably wouldn't have otherwise.
With questions you can take a story to new levels.
I got to know someone better who I thought I already knew well.
I got to learn about someone in an environment that they feel comfortable in.
Look forward to knowing the real persona because everyone has a social façade.

How could you use ideas from this session?

Help a student make friends.
At all levels: camp/ leadership/ building classrooms.
Best at that age when students need to feel safe.
Great icebreaker activity for the ESL classroom. Involves language, the use of questions and allows students to go know each other better.
To get the students in my class to delve deeper into what they already know about their classmates.
Building connections between every students in your class.
Teach communication and questioning skills to students.
Help students foster more authentic relationships.
Prove 'underachievers' are not.
Ice breaker at staff meeting, or leadership retreat.

What value do you see in this process? 

In such a small group it forces you to not just listen, but actively engage.
It reminds me of the importance of questions in order for students to feel like they matter,
It will facilitate better community because we know more about each other.
Deeper connections were made.
Breaks ice and barriers.
Great way for people to connect with people. It's easier to feel comfortable in a group when you know about each other feel you share similarities.
Authentic questions/ authentic answers.

 

What you learned about yourself and others

I can see how her childhood made her into the creative and adaptable teacher she is today.
How much energy people exert when they are in a safe and stimulating experience.
How people can have the same values but view an experience in an entirely different way.
Hidden gems about parenthood.
As I talk I find more answers.

What was new for you in this

  • The realization that humans are primarily emotive rather than thoughtful.
    Developed a deeper understanding for a colleagues passion and soul.
    The amount of information you actually got about some people.
    Observing my colleagues in a different light.
    Having an observer. Very different and frustrating because sometimes you too want to ask questions.

    Would you like to have another session like this?

    I find it difficult to ask or tell personal information to someone I don't know.
    Yes to continue to share and get to know something about all.
    Yes! With more time and with my staff at school. The best way to learn is from others.
    Yes I like learning more about others. I learn just as much from the questions..as the answers given.
