What participants in a UVic session said ... Power of Personal Story Workshops
Who is one of the most interesting people you've met?
Why was that person interesting to you?
What are some of the most important decisions you've made?
Why are you here?
I'm not generally very comfortable with people asking me questions about myself. I didn't writ my own questions but I felt the questions I was asked were respectful starting with ' Why are you here'
I heard in ten minutes a deeply private story from a total stranger. I have found that people are extremely isolated and hearing her story today really surprised me. I would like to know her more.
There were so many questions I wanted to ask as Person B share their answers to the question,. so many overlaps of my own life that I wanted to see where they led.
It both worked for us because we both wanted to share something, and what we shared sparked something of the other person's life.
The interaction was powerful due to the 'comfort zone' created by each person choosing their own question. I offered a questions that I needed to ask myself and this opened me to possibilities and answers through a small safe group.
Having to answer my question made me reflect on why did I put down that question.
I am a good historian and usually people trust me almost instantly and I will like to participate in these sessions more.
I love to talk about my experiences and I just need people who want to listen and then what happens is I always spark something in another.. So many times I find the other person is gratified and gets inspiration re: their own life.
Striking up conversations cam be worth it at a stage of life that is a new beginning
In a way I'm a private person, but I felt ok to talk . Small groups, maybe talking to strangers makes it easier.
The question asked me might make me stretch my thoughts that I don't want to face.
Other.
I like the way the lecture is organized. It was not just listening, but interactive.
The process I think is brilliant
