Always looking for questions to bring people
out from behind the mask

What government staff said ... Power of Personal Story Workshops

  • What were you expecting?  What surprised you?

Didn’t know what to expect/ Surprised that gov’t is sponsoring a course like this!
... All of the class interaction was great! and fun!

How to tell a story to get your point across without losing the attention/ interest of your audience ( my 5 yr. old)
It would enhance communication/ The person I was paired with has the same desires, goals and interests as I do.
.../ The extent of the questions asked during the workshop.
.../ By asking a question to another, and hearing their answer, my answer to my question was changed dramatically  Level of impact on me was a surprise.
Not sure/  How much I enjoyed myself.
Something out of the norm/ The presenter, his presence methods and the actual topic.
I had no idea/ Lack of structure / purpose.
Unsure and open/ I had a change of priority in my life after only one question.
To have fun/  The connections I made.
To be somewhat awkward.. like role playing/  Instead it was easy and expanding.

  • Why did you enjoy it?
It’s not too often we get to talk to someone about our lives, in an inquiring way.
Nice to think about things that are truly important to me, to connect with someone outside of usual government  “blah’ environment.
It was easy to connect with  a stranger.
Learning about others and their interests.
It was a change in routine. The stories and examples that were shared by the facilitator and the participants were enjoyable.
Everyday life.
Learning from other's experiences/ creating opportunities.
Solving a business problem.
I love one on one interactions and always enjoy meeting new people.
It was different -- offered up something to think about and apply to life ( work and home)
It’s nice to talk with people, but I don’t need a workshop to do that.
Opportunity to meet and learn something about someone new.
Validates my curious nature.
Enjoyed thinking about and articulating what I was anxious about/ Learning about another experience is an honour.
I enjoy making connections.
Connecting with people on a deeper level.
Opportunity to work through some of the things typical to my life right now.
I learned about others. Kicked me in the butt to step up and approach people ‘cold’

  • An interesting question you heard, thought of, or asked

Did you share your epiphany with your family?
How would it feel if you got what you wanted?
What childhood dreams have you fulfilled?
How do you fulfill a childhood dream?
At a crossroads in  your life, were you took one path, in retrospect do you wish you’d take another one, and why?
What is stopping your from taking that path now?
What makes you want to get up in the morning?
What’s the most dangerous thing you’ve done?
After life, what?
How do you sense your are powerful?
Where does power come from?
How would it feel if you had confidence?
How will you make that happen?
How do you feel before vs after that goal?

  • How could you use ideas from this session?

Intimacy building.
In everyday life, getting to know people and discover new and interesting  things about them through conversation.
Just ask questions.. get people thinking , stir the juices.
Opportunities will appear that you may not necessarily have known about.
To ask questions in my life and get to know them better.. even my parents.
Just ask a question.
To add balance to my life
Learned of opportunities to enhance my life.
Importance of networks
Diversity of interests.
Send some time thinking about what you’d like to know about the important people in your life, and then create questions to elicit those answer. Set up an opportunity to ask them: email, coffee, etc
To have more meaningful conversations with friends , to make the most of our time together.
Cannot see an application.
Ask questions of my co-workers other than ‘how’s your weekend?’
To enhance personal connections
Remember to ask questions.. and listen.
Stay open.
Become closer to people I think I already know.

I would like to learn more about, have practice in , asking good questions, engaging people, communicating rather than just exchanging information, or as well as.

Brainstorming can get me  ‘unstuck’ from small talk.
Other people think the same way ( surprisingly!)
If I feel comfortable  with someone I can be truly open and honest.
I’m a good listener.
If given a chance to be heard I have a lot to share with others.
People don’t have to have any special training to be a great sounding board or resource.
High level of commonality.
I know I love to talk and I am a good listener but perhaps I need to do more talking  because I could not stop , and got very emotional.
The people that we work with  / see. their names.. are really people and have interesting  and diverse lives.
Not much that I didn't know already.
To remember to be conscious that everyone is interesting if you ask them a good question.
That I like to find ways to connect people with common interests.
Everyone has a story. We’re all more connected that we realize ask the right questions.
Everyone  has interesting stories to tell if yo
Have you shared my epiphany with my family.. and I have not -- which reveals to me a dynamic I  wasn ‘t consciously aware of.

How similar at their root, is the human condition.
Re-ignited idea of going into coaching.

Someone listening and really focusing  on what I had to say.
What is missing in my job.. fun.
