I love listening to  what my colleagues have done.
We never get this opportunity in our busy frantic school days.

What participants at a school staff retreat said ... about Power of Personal Story Workshops
read more schools' feedback

What were you expecting?
A Power Point presentation /   A 'presentation'.
Just resources for  contacts with speakers

What surprised you?
The level of engagement. Practicality and versatility
I was surprised , given that I had little energy after the last engaging seminar .-how energized I feel right now
I especially like the idea for an opening  exercise at the beginning of a course.
I was surprised that we were actively involved
Everything.

What did you learn about yourself and others?

That I am shy about sharing my personal story with people I do no know well
How much I like to listen to others' stories.
Honestly too much to write. Learned things I never would have leaned otherwise.
That I am a good listener, and  can keep a dialogue going. I feel my own life has been uneventful.
How quickly one questions leads into more.

What was new for you?

It gave form to an instinct I have. It's now easier to follow that instinct.
Know staff on different level
Sharing my story

What value do you see in this process?

Developing trust and empathy within the classroom.
Importance of taking class time to have students get to know each other.

Would you like to have another session like this?

Absolutely. It's important and accessible to all students.
Yes. I'd like to get to know more colleagues on  this level.
I would like to experiment first tin the classroom.
Always good for relationship building.
It would be good to model the process for the staff. Hard to 'explain'  It's  power must be experienced.

How could you use this in the classroom

Prompts for student writing.
Reaching students journals allows me to know them, but they don't know each other.

Why did you enjoy it

I love listening to  what my colleagues have done. We never get this opportunity in our busy frantic school days.
Allowed for greater interaction with unknown staff members
